First Glance: Facebook's Reactions
If you've been on the edge of your seat waiting for a sneak peek of Facebook's updated "like" button, wait no more.
Zuckerberg recently showed us the beta version of Reactions and emoji lovers all over the world rejoiced. Similar to the way iPhone emojis function, you can select an emotion by simply hovering over the like button. Users can then communicate feelings like humor, sadness and anger in addition to the existing like.
Check out the video here. Disclaimer: Before you get too excited, you should know that Facebook is only testing Reactions in Ireland and Spain right now [insert sad emoji].
Now that we have a more tangible idea of what the latest feature will look like, I gathered a few our team's initial reactions to Reactions [see what I did there?] below. My thoughts? "YAY!"
"YAAAS!" - Sara Arnold
"WOW. LOVE. But where’s the YUM button? Can you tell most of my comments involve food? SAD." - Carol Klimas
"Love the idea! If we use emojis to express emotion when we text… why wouldn’t we do the same on FB?" - Christina Guenther
"I think this is a good step, often there are posts I want to react to such as a friend losing a pet, and a 'Like' feels like it’s inappropriate for a sad situation. This way we can express sympathy and support a little more appropriately." - Kat Menze
"I heart this all day long! Does phase II involve a hangry emoji? Please and thank you." - Amy La Sala
